DRIVER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

DRIVER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (DIP) - $100

Individuals may be assigned to complete a Driver Improvement Program by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, the courts, or another state’s motor vehicle administration. The curriculum used for this course is approved by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. This course covers the Maryland driving record point system, laws that pertain to your driving record, and unsafe or dangerous driving behaviors, such as aggressive driving, distracted driving, driving fatigued, and driving impaired. Safe driving practices are reviewed throughout the course. The course stresses that drivers should choose to be safe, every trip, every time.
Individuals must have a basic understanding of the language in which the course is offered. Per MVA regulations, interpreters are not allowed in the in-person classroom nor are they allowed to assist participants during the final exam.
The Driver Improvement Program can be completed in two ways:
OPTION #1 - In-Person Class
Offered in English only
The IN-PERSON class covers the Driver Improvement Program Curriculum and ends with the final written exam comprised of 20 multiple choice questions. Participants must achieve a score of 80% or higher on the final exam to successfully complete the program. If a participant does not pass the final exam, they must wait 24 business hours before attempting the final exam again.
Drive on Time Driving School utilizes a paperless electronic system. Participants will access quizzes and exams through a student portal. The student portal can be accessed using a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet. Therefore, participants should bring a charged mobile device with them to their class or final exam appointment.
Successful completion of the program will be electronically submitted to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration within 24 business hours. Class participants will receive a paper certificate of completion for their records.
In-person classes are offered every Saturday at our Salisbury office location,1500 Pemberton Drive, Salisbury, MD 21801. Class Check-in is 8:30 AM t 8:45 AM. Class starts promptly at 9:00 AM and ends around 12:00 PM. Those arriving more than 5 minutes late for class will not be admitted. Pre-registration for the class is required.

OPTION #2 – Online (Internet based) Self-Paced Driver Improvement Course
Offered in English and Spanish
Individuals must be 18 years of age or older to complete the Online Self-Paced Driver Improvement Program. Students under 18 years of age must take the IN-PERSON Driver Improvement Program.
The Online Self-Paced Course is broken into two steps: completion of the online curriculum and the final exam which is administered in-person at one of our office locations (days and times for final exams are at the bottom of this page).

6-8 HOUR DRIVER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM $300

This program is for individuals who have a moving violation in another state and are required to complete a 6–8-hour Driver Improvement Program.
This program is only offered as an in-person class at our Salisbury location and scheduled on an as needed basis. Participants must call the office during normal business hours to schedule this service. 443-944-5288. A copy of the letter must be provided in order to schedule this service.
Course fee must be paid in advance (cash, credit card, or money order only) and is non-refundable.
Participants must bring referral letter and photo ID to the class.
Participants who successfully complete the program will be provided with a paper certificate of completion.

YOUNG DRIVER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM $200.00
Drivers who receive three or more moving violations prior to their 18th birthdays are assigned by the MVA to attend the YOUNG DRIVER IMPROVEMENT. The referral letter for this class is usually on yellow paper and will clearly state, “ASSIGNMENT TO THE YOUNG DRIVER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM.”
